Gabrielle Plews writes for Edie: ESG backlash creates opportunities for committed firms

Gabrielle Plews, Head of our Corporate and Commercial team, has written for Edie on how the ESG backlash has created an opportunity for committed firms to show their true ethos.

Edie is the UK’s leading media platform for sustainability in business, empowering sustainability, energy and environmental professionals, and offering content, events, and a network for those working to make businesses more sustainable.

In her article, Gabrielle discusses ESG in the Trump era, considers the UK picture and looks at why ESG matters. She says:

I believe ESG is more important now than ever before. In times of political and economic uncertainty, maintaining your moral backbone as a company matters.

Supporting ESG when the political tide favours it says little about your organisation or its long-term value and purpose. Sticking to your values when others hop off the ESG bandwagon counts. It says a lot more about who you are and whether you can be trusted.

Gabrielle goes on to explain how “the Bindmans 10% social justice fund serves as proof of how important it is to embed transparent metric-based ESG values across the supply chain” and “by putting our money where our mouth is, our clients will directly benefit and feel encouraged by our further commitment to our values and community.”
