Kiya is a solicitor in our Crime, Fraud, and Regulatory & International team.
Kiya represents individuals at all stages of the criminal justice process, from the police investigation stage all the way to appeals. Her experience encompasses criminal and civil/public law, often in politically sensitive cases, both in the UK and internationally.
With a focus on serious and complex offences, she has developed expertise in a wide range of criminal matters, including terrorism, protest, fraud, football offences, general crime, sexual offences, and extradition involving human rights arguments relating to prison conditions and the right to a fair trial. Kiya has experience of matters concerning the protection of journalistic sources and has a strong understanding of privileged and excluded material in such cases. She has also worked on cases involving university students facing misconduct-related allegations with criminal implications.
Kiya has experience of all stages of criminal proceedings, including investigations, proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court, and the Court of Appeal. She is skilled in cases involving vulnerable individuals under police investigation and/or facing criminal prosecution.
Kiya is committed to upholding the rights of individuals within the criminal justice system and is well practiced in cases involving human rights, public law issues, and challenging police powers.
Education and career
- Kiya graduated with a First-Class degree in English Literature from University of Sussex.
- She then completed both of the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations and finished the SQE2 in the first quantile.
- She has developed expertise in matters involving vulnerable individuals and human rights. She previously volunteered with a charity providing a wide variety of support for refugees in the UK and abroad.
- Kiya has unique prosecutorial insights and has experience at the Crown Prosecution Service in general crime, organised crime, and then terrorism
