Brexit Negotiations: fair trade and competition laws

1 min

Any Trade Deal that is eventually struck between Britain and the EU must comply with European standards of Labour Law and fair Competition say senior officials. Negotiating the best deal will be an interesting path to tread after many years of union, but EU leaders are keen to ensure that a future Brexit trade deal should not allow either side to benefit unfairly from any competitive advantages through lower social and environmental standards or tax competition. The final deal will likely establish mutual recognition as to agreed labour standards, human rights and animal welfare and prevent parties from handing out subsidies to their preferred industries in a way that would give them a favourable edge over European competitors.
