Key Brexit papers for release by the British Government

1 min

The Government is set to publish key Brexit policy papers in the next few weeks, dealing with issues such as the status of Northern Ireland, post leaving the EU, and whether or not to replace the customs union. In confirming the UK’s position with respect to the ongoing negotiations in writing, the aim is to reassure the British Public that the Government is sufficiently prepared for future talks with Brussels. Businesses are concerned at the prospect of losing out on the customs union and transfer of goods within the EU but the Prime Minister is hopeful that the prospect of striking free trade deals will outweigh the benefits of free movement. Brussels have said that they will not allow the next stage of talks to progress without resolution of the border with the Republic of Ireland together with reaching agreement on a financial settlement and solving the vexed question over the status of EU nationals.
