Spectrum Building residents have received parliamentary support from all sides. A cross-party group of 17 MPs, led by Dagenham and Rainham MP, Margaret Mullane, are seeking more information about the Dagenham fire which destroyed residents’ homes.
The 17 MPs are working to change the law to make it easier for all leaseholders to obtain information about their homes.
The residents are represented by Christian Hansen, partner in our Housing and Property Litigation team.
The 17 MPs, from across all major parties, have written to the Spectrum Building insurer, Aviva, and the freeholder, asking them to share information about the building and the fire that they have so far been keeping secret.
The letter to Aviva states:
We stand with Spectrum Building leaseholders and residents in wanting answers about what happened and join with them in asking that Aviva share information and data collected in the course of investigations into the fire.
The MPs’ letters to Aviva and the freeholder, and the residents case were widely covered in national media yesterday, including in the evening TV news. The ITV coverage can be watched here, from 14:17 to 17:09. The BBC coverage can be watched here, from 03:00 to 05:41.
This has also been covered by the BBC article, “I’ve no home, no answers after flat block fire”. Read this here.
