Spectrum Building residents seeking answers

2 mins

Residents of Spectrum Building have spoken about their experiences and their search for answers after the London Fire Brigade investigation report into the 2024 fire that destroyed their building.

Christian Hansen, partner in our Housing and Property Litigation team, represents leaseholders and tenants of Spectrum Building. He highlights the systemic limitations on residents’ rights to information.

London Centric have interviewed residents and Christian Hansen. You can read the article here.

Sarah Williams, Spectrum Building resident, comments:

So many of us had terrible experiences on the night of the fire and we have continued to suffer. We are the innocent victims of the fire and have lost so much. The report from the fire brigade starts to give us some answers about what happened to our homes but we have seen private companies take a profit but scurry into the shadows after the fire.

We regret having to fight to get what we are owed and we are asking for answers. It cannot be fair that the building owner and Aviva hold secret information that they have not shared with us about the cause and spread of the fire.

Christian Hansen of Bindmans comments:

Residents should be at the centre of all steps taken after a fire. Expert investigations by building insurers are standard after a fire but insurers routinely refuse to share their data and investigation reports with residents. This is a system which needs to change.

Bindmans continue to help the residents to achieve answers and justice.
