Bindmans announces two partner and four associate promotions

We are pleased to announce the promotion of two partners, alongside the promotion of four associates for 2025.

Christian Hansen
Partner, Housing and Property Litigation | Public Law and Human Rights

Christian often acts for large residents’ groups in claims against developers, freeholders and landlords. He has particular expertise in fire safety claims against developers and freeholders requiring the replacement of unsafe cladding, insulation, and cavity barriers, and requiring significant payments of damages.

He has a strong public law practice representing individuals, campaign groups, and charities, with particular expertise in homelessness, community care cases for social services users, and welfare benefits. He represented clients in the Supreme Court in both 2017 and 2018. Christian has over two decades’ experience in acting for clients at all court levels. He often acts for vulnerable clients, including those without capacity to litigate and is frequently instructed by the Official Solicitor. He continues to advise and represent clients across all residential landlord and tenant matters, including disrepair, unlawful eviction, possession, harassment, and all tenancy related disputes. Axel Landin
Partner, Media and Information

Axel advises clients on all aspects of media law, reputation management and crisis management. While his primary focus is defamation (libel and slander), he also advises clients on privacy law including convention rights, and the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, as well as the torts of breach of confidence and misuse of private information. He is a trusted advisor to many figures in the public eye, with a particular focus on the sector of government and politics, and has in recent years advised and represented front-bench politicians of all the major parties, as well as international political figures and organisations. Axel also acts for corporate clients, public authorities, membership organisations and NGOs.

Axel also has a thriving regulatory practice, complementing his media law expertise to provide clients with an integrated crisis management service. He has represented clients in investigations and regulatory processes before institutions such as the Independent Press Standards Organisation, the Bar Standards Board, the Electoral Commission, the Financial Conduct Authority and the General Medical Council. He has also advised candidates, political parties and commercial clients on the statutory restrictions of, and criminal liability for, communications in election campaigns, as well as other aspects of UK election law. Verity Cannell
Associate, Public Law and Human Rights

Verity’s practice includes acting in both public law matters and civil claims against public authorities. She also has experience of bringing complaints on behalf of individuals and companies to the European Court of Human Rights. Verity has represented individuals and organisations in judicial review claims and complaints against central government departments (for example, the Home Office) and local authorities.

She advises clients on a variety of issues, including community care matters, such as access to support for care leavers and support for asylum seekers. Her practice also includes challenging cautions and requesting the deletion of information inappropriately held on police records. Verity is also experienced in bringing civil claims against public bodies, including false imprisonment claims and data protection breaches. Find out more about Verity’s expertise here.

Safina Mitha
Associate, Family Law

Safina specialises in international work, particularly child abduction cases. She represents parents in cases concerning the 1980 Hague Convention, those involving non-Hague Convention countries, and applications made pursuant to the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court (Wardship cases). Safina assists parents both in making such applications, and in defending them. Safina also has experience of cases involving stranded spouses, and cases where there are issues of forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).

Safina acts for foreign public bodies in complex cross-border public law proceedings to seek the recognition and enforcement of foreign courts. Safina also has particular experience in public law children work, and has worked on a variety of complex cases, including those with an international element. In addition, Safina advises parents in variety of private law children cases, involving disputes between parents in relation to lives with and spends time with orders (child arrangements), and cases where there are allegations of domestic abuse. Megan Owen
Associate, Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury

Megan co-works cases with a partner, she regularly acts for adults and children who have suffered catastrophic life-changing injuries. In the last two years, Megan has assisted on claims which have settled for an aggregate total of over £30 million (on a capitalised basis). Recent cases include high-value settlements for two lower limb amputees and a seven-figure settlement for an adult who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury.

Megan assisted in securing: a seven-figure settlement for an adult who sustained a traumatic brain injury, a seven-figure settlement for an adult who had both legs amputated as a result of clinical negligence and a six-figure settlement for the family of a man who died by suicide. Megan Rothman
Associate, Family Law

Megan specialises in child law and represents clients in a wide range of public and private family matter having particular expertise in public law care proceedings, representing parents and other family members. She has experience working on complex matters, including those involving domestic abuse, drug and alcohol misuse, mental health, non-accidental injury, deprivation of liberty (DOLS), cases with an international element and immigration issues.  

Megan also works with parents who seek advice about child in need, child protection and PLO proceedings. She also advises parents in private disputes about where a child lives and who they spend time with, including those that involve serious allegations of domestic abuse and fact-finding hearings. She also deals with private disputes where there is social services involvement with the family. Megan also has an interest in adoption matters. Find out more about Megan’s expertise here.
