Tanya Goldfarb comments in Global Mobility Lawyer

2 mins

Tanya Goldfarb, Head of our Business Immigration team, has been quoted in the Global Mobility Lawyer article, Immigration white paper sends message that the UK is “closed for business”.

This article discusses the government’s White Paper, which outlines planned reforms to the UK’s migration system. Our summary of the White Paper proposals for immigration reform can be read here.

Tanya comments:

Whilst the real details have yet to be fully announced, it is clear that the desire to ‘skill-up’ the British economy is being conflated with a hunger for reducing (so called) ‘illegal migration’, deliberately misreferred to as net migration by successive governments.

Tanya warns that the White Paper has:

The potential to be isolationist and result in a downgrading of the UK on the world stage.

In response to Keir Starmer describing the UK as an ‘island of strangers’, she says:

The UK is not an ‘island of strangers’; it is a diverse, richly talented country of excellence and in order to remain so we need to attract the brightest and the best and not make it prohibitively expensive to do so.

The article can be read in Global Mobility Lawyer here.
