Bindmans announces new data law practice and welcomes Data Protection and Cyber Law Partner

With technology, data and cyber issues becoming increasingly prevalent, leading national law firm Bindmans LLP announces a new data law practice area and welcomes Data Protection and Cyber Law Partner, Monika Sobiecki, to spearhead the practice.

Monika is a specialist Data Protection and Cybersecurity Barrister who joins the firm from Dentons. She has a wealth of experience in all aspects of data and information law and is passionate about building better tech which embeds privacy and ethics-by-design.

She has been recognised in the Legal 500 for Litigation and her work in the Higher Education sector, and has been described as a ‘consummate professional who always responds with pragmatic advice’ who ‘quickly cuts through the noise to get to the nub of the issue’.

Prior to joining Bindmans, Monika was part of the Data Protection, Privacy and Cybersecurity team at Dentons, which is ranked Tier 1 in the Legal 500. She has also been the winner of the Bar Pro Bono Award.

Bindmans now puts this expertise within the reach of organisations and individuals who require expert legal advice on data protection and cyber issues.

The Data Protection and Cybersecurity practice provides risk advisory and compliance support for organisations of all sizes. Organisations face challenges in building and maintaining privacy governance frameworks, managing ongoing security risks from cyberattacks and data loss. At the same time, they want to be able to responsibly tap into the data that they have, whether it is a marketing database or analytics from their websites and products. Monika has worked for individuals, public and private sector organisations. She has handled high-profile and international cyber incidents; managed GDPR programmes and audits, and has been involved in advising on a vast range of issues, from marketing campaigns and loyalty schemes to innovative new technologies.

Tamsin Allen, Head of Media and Information Law at Bindmans, said:

We are excited to welcome Monika and to build on our work in the field of digital rights and data security. From our experience representing Christopher Wylie as he exposed Cambridge Analytica, to our burgeoning data law practice, it is ever more clear that this is an area affecting everyone, and every business. Monika’s experience and skills will help us to continue provide first class services to our clients, to challenge the misuse of data and to develop the law.
