Bindmans’ Tamsin Allen named ‘Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice’ at the Law Society Excellence Awards 2019

2 mins

Bindmans LLP is proud to announce that at the Law Society’s 13th annual Excellence Awards last night, Tamsin Allen was named as ‘Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice’.

The last year has been an extraordinary one for Bindmans LLP’s Media and Information law department, and its head Tamsin Allen has been the key driver of this success. Tamsin’s pioneering work includes successfully defending high profile whistleblowers, most notably in the ‘Cambridge-Analytica’ and ‘Vote Leave’ scandals.

Tamsin’s work successfully defending the most high-level whistleblowers penetrated right to the heart of U.K and world-wide democracy, with fundamental personal privacy and data issues at stake for millions of social media users. Her work in advising her clients in their evidence to the ICO, electoral commission, US Senate and House committees and Parliamentary bodies here, in Europe and Canada, demonstrates her technical legal excellence, strong leadership and true dedication to her clients.

 Tamsin said:

Firstly, many thanks to the Judges tonight, and to my wonderful colleagues at Bindmans for their commitment to using the law for real and effective social change.

The past year has been special for me because of my clients – in particular, two special whistleblowers, Chris Wylie and Shahmir Sanni. The work of a whistleblower is always difficult, lonely and fraught with legal and personal risk. But despite that, these brave young men have exposed what actually happens to our data when we casually hand it over to Facebook, and their work has led to Parliamentary and other investigations around the world and, we hope, to lasting change so I have enormous admiration for what they have done.

Thank you again for your kindness in awarding me this honour which I am very happy to accept on behalf of my clients and colleagues.

The winners were announced on the 23rd of Ocotber 2019 at a ceremony held at Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair. Daniel Winterfeldt of Reed Smith LLP and Kayleigh Leonie of Macfarlanes LLP were highly comended. David Jackson of Shoosmiths, Lucy Shepherd of Shoosmiths, Manjinder Kaur Atwal of Duncan Lewis Solicitors, Marcus Hayes MBE of Mason Hayes, Sundeep Soor of Cartwright King Solicitors, Tammy Samuel of Stephenson Harwood LLP, and Yair Cohen – Cohen Davis Solicitors were shortlisted.

Bindmans LLP is delighted for Tamsin and her team and would like to congratulate all those shortlisted for this prestigious award.
