Immigration Health Surcharge increase to come into effect next month

1 min

Further to our recent update on the postponement of the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) increase here, it has now been confirmed that the increase (coming in with a whopping 66% hike) will officially be implemented on 6 February 2024.

Following approval by Parliament on 16 January 2024,  the relevant Order was published very early morning today, 18 January 2024,  and confirms that from 6 February 2024, those required to pay the IHS will now have to part with £1,035 (for adults) for every year of visa being applied for and £776 per year for children under 18/students and their qualifying dependents and those making Youth Mobility Scheme visa applications.

This gives some breathing space for visa applicants, with 18 days to go before the higher charges come into effect, which is good news. However, we expect a surge in applications between now and 5 February which will likely place an ever greater strain on the government’s already stretched visa systems!
