From 1 June 2025, Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) which expired on 31 December 2024, can no longer be used as evidence of immigration status in the UK or for travel to the UK.
UK visa holders must now demonstrate their right to enter or remain in the UK by way of their eVisa through the UKVI online immigration status systems. This does not yet apply to legacy (paper) document holders, although Bindmans strongly encourages those with a stamp in an old expired passport or a paper document to take all necessary steps to be able to demonstrate their status in the UK digitally.
Anyone travelling internationally should ensure that before they travel they have created a UKVI account and have both linked their status to it and get a share code to “View and Prove” their status. It is imperative that the eVisa is showing the correct details before travel and an up-to-date travel document is linked to the account.
If you, a family member, or colleague need assistance in creating a UKVI account or have any questions about UK immigration status or an existing UKVI account, please reach out to your Bindmans UK Immigration Team contact or email us at Immigration.Enquiries@bindmans.com
