Liz Barratt interviewed by Sky News on the migrants being detained as part of the returns deal with France

1 min

As the first migrants arriving in Britain by small boats have been detained as part of the government’s plans to return them to France, Liz Barratt, head of our Immigration, Asylum and Nationality team, spoke to Sky News yesterday.

Liz gave some examples of the sorts of claims that may be made by migrants who want to challenge their deportation.

“The legal challenges will be based on individual facts, so the more people you get caught up in it, the more people who may well have challenges.

“They may well have good cases to be put against the decision to return them to France. For instance, they may be people who have family here in the UK, who have strong ties to the UK or who have had problems in France that makes them unsafe in France.

“It’s going to be very fact-specific.”
