Tanya Goldfarb, Head of Business Immigration, has spoken to Global Mobility Lawyer, giving her opinion on the raft of changes to UK immigration policy, which she describes as “disastrous, cruel and short-sighted.”
The government is rolling out its first changes to UK immigration policy following the publication of its immigration white paper in May, and the first measures will come into effect on 22 July.
Tanya says that the changes:
Represent a failure to embrace the advantages and benefits that inward migration has already delivered to the UK. Importantly, they potentially set the UK on a course to slip down the economic league tables and will ultimately deliver a UK that is not a major world player. It’s an economic tragedy waiting to unfold.
The article discusses the changes in detail, including one of the most notable ones which is the raising of salary and skills thresholds for the Skilled Worker visa.
Tanya adds:
The impending changes place the UK on a path to isolationism and a collision course sending us hurtling towards the UK becoming an unattractive place to work, invest, and study.
